Winter's Daughter
02:30
|
|||
Now Old Man Winter’s dying
He can’t hold on
He’ll never see his daughter
Spring, she’s coming home
But I’ll be there to kiss her firm but pliant lips
Her sunny days and gentle breezes will thaw my fingertips
I heard it from the hillside
The birds were singing
They told of Winter’s passing
But he was bringing me
A girl as bright and warm as he was cold and he was mean
That ashen face of his now must be turning green
Now that her daddy’s dead I hope she’s coming back to stay
My rough hands just gotta shake those darling buds of May
The ice is breaking up now
It melts like crazy
He’s gone back underground
Must be pushing daisies
He’ll disappear into the potholes of my mind
I’ll fly right over all of them with the girl he left behind

I live in the past ‘cause I know how it ends
Will I last ‘till tomorrow? That all depends...
The lights may be on but there’s nobody home
So don’t try to call me on the bakelite telephone
I’m a man out of time
I should call for help but I ain’t got a dime
Or the sense, that it takes in these days
As you wait for the wind to come and blow you away
Wanted to be rich but I couldn’t make the changes
To spend all day kissing asses of strangers
Black Friday came, all I heard was a crash
Next thing you know I was out the window in a flash
I’m a man out of time
I ain’t got a prayer so I made up a rhyme
No offense, to all those who would pray
That there’s more to tomorrow than just yesterday
Spend your whole life traveling forward and then find
Your soul’s been unraveling
Right on back to where you was before
The rivers of time are beginning to flood
While my Model-T tires get stuck in the mud
My suicide note will be a telegram
But who will be left to remember who I am?
I’m a man out of time
I should call for help but I ain’t got a dime
Or the sense, that it takes in these days
As you wait for the wind to come and blow you away
Man out of time (Ran out of time)

Mildred After Midnight
03:44
|
|||
When the sun comes shining down our street
There's a lady that I often meet
She pretends not to know me at all
But she changes when the dark shadows fall
I can feel it in my toes
Someone's there when I take off my clothes
Hello Mildred, how are you today?
After midnight you'll be back to play
In the daylight you play me so cool
But after midnight I'm nobody's fool
The folks in town think she's some kind of freak
She likes to hide and she won't ever speak
They say she's wild and just cannot be tamed
They've never heard when she's purring my name
When the world's gone to bed
Her heart turns from all black to bright red
Hello Mildred, etc......
I know she loves me, though she always snubs me
The moonlight will bring a surprise
Under the cover of darkness she's my lover
Keeping me up 'til sunrise
I don't care what they say on the street
Their grapes are sour but my love is sweet
Her heart was cold but it's starting to thaw
So just be careful 'cause she's still got her claws
I can feel it in my toes
Someone's there when I take off my clothes
Hello Mildred, etc......

How Many Hours
02:33
|
|||
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
I love you so but you know I'm running late
Always got to be somewhere else
Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine
I'd like to stay but you know I've gotta make time
Always keep both eyes on the wealth
How many hours until I return?
Heartaches outnumber the lessons I've learned
Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten
I'll be back though I really can't say when
It's a long long way back from hell
Four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven
I'll pray each night that all roads lead to heaven
Someday I may lean on your bell
How many hours until I return?
Heartaches outnumber the lessons I've learned
How I regret, the life that I've chosen to lead
I'll never rest, with my chickens all following me
Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve
If this keeps up I know I'm gonna hate myself
My stupidity keeps us apart
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen
I know what I'm saying but I don't like what I think I mean
I could see the end from the start
How many hours until I return?
Heartaches outnumber the lessons I've learned
