Sidewalks cracked in 1923
Houses are blue, brick, tan or green
A church, built of logs by a stream
Evergreens verdant
Your mind's permanently
On Davidson
Second floor in attic #2
A hundred years of things to do
A train; some mousetraps never sprung
Boxes of blue wax
Songs no longer sung
On Davidson
Please tell me all of your friends are well
On Melby
Will Washington take you to Anderson's Hill,
Still?
Wax paper please, bottom left kitchen drawer
Shine the slide faster than before
Tonight, down the hall and up the stairs
Push button switches
Answer all wishes and prayers

Mississippi Paddleboat

Hear the beating Mississippi paddleboat, churning home
See the people waving flags and handkerchiefs, people we love
Hear the hooter, tootin' to the summer sky, just for fun
See my boy go rushing to the landing side, he is the one....
And I’ve been waiting for, a long long time
And he’s been waiting for, for he is mine
Na na na na na na.....
Hear the beating Mississippi paddleboat, churning home
See the people waving flags and handkerchiefs, people we love
See my baby running down the road to me, calls my name
Hear him say, haven’t got too long to stay, who do I pay?
Now I’ve been waiting here, a long long time
And yes you’ve waited here, for you are mine
Na na na na na na.....
I had been hoping that you would stay, but from your words I see
You are all ready to go away, leaving me....

Milwaukee Road

On the Milwaukee Road
Conductor calls all aboard
It gets me- home in a day
Down at the station, when the train pulls in
They'll let down the steps and I'll see you again
Step off the platform, to be welcomed aboard
Down the aisle to a compartment that we could afford
(Chorus)
Train's pulling out now and I'm traveling away
Coming back to see you and your good old days
Run to the dome car, see the countryside
Down along Lake Pepin where the river gets wide
Kind hippies offering me all kinds of things
But Santa's got candy, he gets on at Red Wing
On the Milwaukee Road
Conductor calls all aboard
It gets me- there overnight, alright
Old folks will be there waiting, when I arrive
Take me back up through the hills and we'll be there by 5:00
After dinner everyone will open their gifts
But just to see their faces is all I could wish
And when from my bed I see warm lamplight glow
I'll always remember, this much I know....

Prairie Du Chien

Bring the old cooler down
Pass the cold drinks around
Gonna have a lot of fun
Heaven in a hot dog bun, dum-didi-dum
Red Dot Potato Chips
Taste good on my lips
Fresca up my nose
Wet sand 'twixt my toes
Mississippi flows....
Picnic at Prairie Du Chien
See the riverboat The Delta Queen
Passing by
Hear the paddlewheel beatin' time
To a song about a summer dream
On my mind
Went to the museum
Ladies you could see through 'em
Then to the Villa Louis
Something 'bout a mystery
Said my mum, dum-didi-dum
Picnic at Prairie Du Chien
Cross the river I can see the trains
Passing by
Hear the engine coming from the north
As it's hummin' down to Davenport
Whistle cries
'Tis a day that dreams are made of
A memory to never fade away

The Watkins Man

How many months since the Watkins Man last came through our town?
Things just ain't what they used to be, he's stopped coming 'round
Unguents, ointments, creams and salves, things all folks should have
Time for new boys shampoo, a brush for dear old dad
No need walking, his green Falcon takes him door to door
Puts no blame on wretched Avon, he's not keeping score
How many days since Fred the Milkman came through the kitchen door?
Things just ain't what they used to be, now we buy milk at the store
Truck bright yellow, funny fellow, suit so white it gleamed
From the dairy he would carry, sweet and sour cream
Chocolate please.... Cottage Cheese.... An orange drink called "Beep!"
Empty bottle, musn't dawdle - he's a friend to keep
But the world is changing fast
Where will they disappear?
I wonder if they're coming back
Has time run out I fear?
How many months since the Watkins Man last came through our town?
So many days since Fred the Milkman stopped by on his round....
